Any undergraduate that is off to university this September, could be starting to get a case of Fresher’s Fear. Don’t worry – it’s totally normal and is usually cured within 24 hours of settling into university living. You will discover that you can make friends, that you do know how to use a map, that your next door neighbour isn’t a robot and you do know how to make a cup of tea.
Whilst having unnecessary anxiety attacks about all of the above – it may slip soon to be students minds that being prepared is key. It’s a well known fact that university is a breeze for the fully prepared student.
How to become the fully prepared student:
- The mini fridge – Good things come in small packages and the mini fridge is no exception. For those in catered halls, a mini fridge is like a bottle of Evian in the middle of the desert. Having a fridge to store milk, butter, drinks etc. in your room will help you to feel at home and in turn, make life that little bit more ‘chilled’ (excuse the pun)
- The clothes peg – This piece of equipment will change your life! It’s often overlooked by those who believe that there will be drying space in a communal washing room – there won’t be. It’s also a safer way to dry more valuable items of your wardrobe and it means that your room will smell of washing on a regular basis, rather than mould.
- Storage – This is a serious subject for any impending student. You are probably aware that you will be taking your whole life in a car to some far away city that you’ve never visited before. Have you considered where you will store all your worldly possessions upon reaching your destination?
Storage is nonexistent in halls of residence and fairly nonexistent in student housing. Easy assemble shelving with no screws or fuss could be the answer to your student storage nightmare. The last thing you need on moving day is having to fight your way through an IKEA flat pack. Shelfstore has a number of screw free shelving options, leaving you plenty of time to cry on your parents shoulder! Boxes that fit under beds and collapsible storage will mean that you can store an extra duvet under your bed or keep valuable items out of sight.
- The extension lead – This is often suggested by a worrisome father figure upon packing for university. It’s by far the most sensible thing you can take with you. University rooms will a) not have enough plug sockets b) have them in unbelievably inconvenient locations. The extension lead will allow you to have a light on, whilst charging your laptop and using your hairdryer – all at the same time – pure luxury.
- A sense of humour – Remember to laugh, this is an adventure – keep your sense of humour at all times and arrive prepared – you can’t go wrong!
Good Luck to everyone who is off to university this September!
