The research, which is part of the Self-Storage Association’s annual survey, actually demonstrates that renters in London often have to rent an additional bedroom, not for accommodation, but for the storage of ‘non-essential items’. These ‘non-essential’ items are listed as things such as…clothes, sports equipment, shoes, music collections, books…you get the idea.

To give you an idea of how costly clutter can be – the cost of renting an additional bedroom in Hammersmith & Fulham is £120 per week. What the survey results show is that people renting an extra room in Hammersmith & Fulham are spending a whopping £4500 extra per annum, in order to simply accommodate their ‘stuff’.


These stats don’t just apply to households either – businesses are just as guilty, if not more so, when it comes to storage solutions. Renting that extra conference room or corner office to accommodate files and paperwork is not an economical way to run a business.

Either we have come out of a double dip recession and now find ourselves swimming in money to spend on renting additional space(for belongings!)
