They are classic furniture pieces that hold our book and knick knack collections to help keep us organised – without them our home would be filled with piles of clutter!
But what if your bookshelf could be as fun as it is functional?
Today we thought we’d look into the design possibilities that our bookcases can provide us with:
Clear the slate
If you’re thinking now is the time to redesign your bookcase then take everything off the shelves and admire the room with your empty bookcase. What could the room do with – a bit off jazzing up or do you want your bookcase to be able to blend in with the rest of your rooms overall décor?
Bring out possibilities
Use the functionality of your bookcase to store things like books, vases, pretty dishes, candles, artifacts, potted plants and photographs – or it may be that you have a collection that needs showcasing. So before you start placing everything on your bookcase, be sure to evaluate their sculptural qualities – this will help you work out the best way to display them.
Put out your best books
Consider arranging your books in a variety of different ways and be sure to incorporate handsome bookends where you can to avoid the wall-to-wall book look. And if you have some space to spare – throw some decorative items into the mix.
Paint your bookshelf.
Consider painting your bookshelf – it could be only in certain areas like the backboard, the shelves themselves or all over. It’s that simple! If you’re someone who is unwilling to comment to a bright paint colour for a whole room, why not introduce it to your bookcase.
Who knew that books could be viewed as décor?!
