Moving home is never going to be easy, but being well prepared is the key to keeping stress at a minimum.
So as the countdown to moving day begins for you – it’s time to start considering all the changes you and your family will face as well as all other aspects of the moving process.
Lucky for you, we’re one step ahead of you and have listed some important things to consider:
Say goodbye to items you no longer need
Moving can be a really good reason to weed out all the stuff you no longer use and can do without. Don’t get trapped into the mind-set of thinking you should hold on to it because you might find a use for it later. It’ll only cost more time and money to lug it to the new place – so get rid of it!
Time it right
Summer is the busiest time of year for moving – families with kids prefer to move when school’s out and when climates such as winter will tend to make things difficult. Beware though – prices will be at their highest!
Start packing early
Packing early is vital – this doesn’t mean packing everything up at once – just the non-essentials. This will save yourself from the last minute rush.
Check out the neighbours
Who doesn’t want to have nice neighbours? If the person who’s selling the house looks shift when you ask what the neighbours are like, then don’t be shy to go and check them out yourself.
Prepare the kids
Moving house is a stressful time – you already have 101 things to do and the last thing you need is to have to deal with is entertaining the kids. Have them looked after for the bulk of the move so you can get things done – but don’t exclude them from the move altogether – they need to know what’s going on. Don’t forget to tell the schools in advance too!
No matter how you get yourselves prepared, moving to a new area can always be stressful – after all it’s a big transition for everyone – so just be sure to plan ahead and do what you need to make the transition as smooth as possible.
