It’s getting closer to that time of year again when you start pondering what happened with the New Year’s resolutions that you chalked up last year and why you never could follow through…
Most of us get off to a flying start but are hectic lifestyles soon kick in to wreak all those planned changes we had for our home in the New Year. See the things about New Year’s resolutions – make them too ambitious and you may throw in the towel too soon, but setting the too low means they’re too disposable to mean anything.
So this year let’s make a change – let’s choose some resolutions that you’re likely to stick too!
In the spirit of new beginnings we have come up with 3 New Year’s resolutions to improve your home:
I will organise my home…
One of the best and least expensive ways to feel better about your home is to clear it of clutter. Each year we all tend to acquire a mountain of stuff – and as it builds up – it becomes harder to find the things you use and enjoy the most. All that clutter also makes your home look dated and dirty.
Make this the year you clear out the clutter from your home. As a general rule of thumb, if you haven’t used it in the past year, you’re not going to in 2015 either. So go through room by room clearing out anything that you don’t use – then you can think about getting rid of it in the New Year. After that, think twice about what you bring into your home.
I will donate everything I don’t need…
If you have stuff that you haven’t used in the past year then once you’ve decluttered your home, instead of trying to sell it – why not think about donating it? We all want to become a better person and volunteer at some point in our lives – so why not aim to do your good deed now. Donate what you don’t use anymore – it could be old furniture or bundles of clothing that you haven’t worn in forever.
Never underestimate the value of a donation that you make – every little step can make a big difference – and not only do we mean in getting your house organised, but by being a blessing to someone in need.
I will brighten up my home with more colour…
Colours have great significance in our lives – they can be very emotive and can have an effect on how we feel. Of course, each of us have different colour preferences – but it really is best to surround yourself with the colours you love the most. So don’t go painting your interiors to match up with the hottest colour trends of the season – keep in mind the purpose of each room and include those colours accordingly.
We hope these tips come in handy when thinking about making any changes to your home in the New Year.
Just don’t try to do them all at once!
