Is your little boy or girl off to senior school this September?
Not so little anymore though are they?
As your offspring grow upwards and outwards, so do all their belongings. With the 11 plus and Year 6 plays well and truly out of the way and senior school firmly on the horizon, make sure your family is prepared for the organisational admin and ‘stuff’ that goes hand in hand with growing up and moving to senior school!
Moving to senior school is a big milestone in any child’s life. It’s an exciting time that requires a little organisation from mum and dad, in order to ensure a smooth transition. With primary and middle school – a few spelling books, gym kits and the odd musical instrument are easy enough to accommodate for, but with senior school it’s a whole different ball game!
If you haven’t received your ‘equipment’ list from your new school, then you’d be forgiven in thinking that this is an over exaggeration, but if you have – you’ll be only too aware of the ‘stuff’ that is about to take over your well ordered home!
The best thing you can do is – be prepared! Your attention will be needed in many other areas come September so it’s best to get the practicalities out of the way before then.
Make Space
Having a summer cleanout of your youngster’s bedroom is a great way to make some space for a new desk or storage system. Homework happens every night and most weekends, you’ll need somewhere for your daughter/son to shut themselves away and focus. A desk is pretty much a necessity and some shelving around the outside will make way for the hundreds of coursework books, files and projects that will accumulate over the years
Sports Equipment
Back in the day, a good hockey stick and netball skirt pretty much saw you sorted through your school sporting career. These days – the sports equipment list is endless – gum shields, golf clubs, riding gear, fencing swords and tap shoes all need a home. Of course some stuff will be stored at school but you’ll need to get thinking about storage systems to accommodate sports gear and musical instruments for those long summer months and school holidays! For anyone looking for easy assemble shelves – Shelfstore have some great systems that will get your child’s equipment well organised, keeping you and them stress free!
Miscellaneous Items
Then there’s the Design Tech projects, art sculptures, textile dresses and paintings that curricular activates will produce along the way! All these items will become precious to loved ones and will need suitable safe storage. We have plenty of ideas and options to help you out.
It may sound trivial to make sure that you’ve got the right storage in place for your son or daughters new school life – but it’s not. This new journey will be stressful enough at times without having high tension moments every time a french book or flute is misplaced.
Make life easy for both sets of parties – parents and children – and get your storage organised this summer.
