It’s finally December folks! As we move into the winter months, we thought that this would be a good time to give you some practical advice so that you can get your home ready for the cold months ahead.
The Christmas season is a time when everyone gets together to celebrate, therefore you want to make sure you home is looking its best. Start thinking about how you can turn your home into Santa’s grotto with our 5 top tips:
- Christmas Lights
Nothing says winter holidays more than bright lights! No decoration is complete without them, from Christmas tree lights, to front facing window lights. The mood of a home is enhanced by lighting, and as the nights get darker, there’s more of a reason to think about brightening up your street.
Not only is outside lighting important but the lights inside your home will make all the difference. Candles are an emblem of Christmas and are everywhere during this time of season – place them throughout your home to create a warm and cosy feel to your home – but be sure to place them in your home carefully, especially if you have children or pets.
- Oh Christmas Tree!
Decorating the Christmas tree is a tradition that most people enjoy and look forward to year after year. One thing we suggest is to really consider how you want to decorate your Christmas tree – after all – your Christmas tree is the central point of your decorations, so it’s important to get it right.
Don’t be afraid to relegate Christmas trees to just the living room space too – a brightly lit outdoor tree could be kept just outside your front porch. You could also consider having one in your hallway – this is a perfect way to get you in the Christmas spirit when you first enter your home.
- Prepare For Extra Guests
Christmas is a time for entertaining – and if it’s your turn to host the traditional family Christmas party – then you may want to start considering arrangements for you extra guests.
An extendable table is useful for those times you need to occasionally seat extra guests. But when it comes to planning extra chairs, try not to resort to uncomfortable collapsible chairs. If you have a few formal chairs situated elsewhere in your home then these will come in handy when you’re playing hostess.
- Keep Your Home Clutter Free
Decluttering is something we often speak about – however at this time of year, it’s even more relevant. During winter, we tend to spend more time at home and it would feel a whole lot cosier if you weren’t surrounded by junk!
Not only is the end of the year a perfect time to get rid of all the things you no longer need, but it’s also a perfect time to make space for all those gifts you’re likely to receive. As wonderful as it is that everyone is so generous at this time of year – you don’t want the sheer volume of gifts to leave you in an anxious stat of storage fever.
- Check The Exterior Of Your Home
After ensuring that the interior of your home is ready for the cold months, it is worthwhile taking a step outside and consider what you can do to carry on with the Christmas décor outside.
Think about your entrance way – what can you do to create a more festive atmosphere for your guests when they first arrive? To sprinkle your entrance way with a bit of festivity – consider hanging a Christmas wreath on your front door. A stuffed reindeer or snowman porch sitter can also add a bit of whimsy to your porch decor.
We hope our Christmas home décor tips has given you enough inspiration and has converted those of you who weren’t feeling the Christmas spirit, into the Christmassy mood.
